Seep Characterization Campaign
Management
At Beaver Creek Analytical, LLC, we have over 20 years of experience in cold-seep and hydrate exploration and characterization campaigns. Our expertise lies in utilizing a comprehensive approach to data collection and analysis, ensuring the highest level of professionalism and efficiency in our projects.

Campaign Services
Pre-Survey Discovery
We commence with a comprehensive area assessment utilizing existing data and online databases, which are re-analyzed from the perspective of seep identification. Available satellite imagery for sheen detection, including optical methods (such as sun reflection) and SAR techniques, may be incorporated into our analysis. Additionally, existing coring, seismic, and electromagnetic (EM) data will further enhance this multi-faceted approach, allowing us to accurately identify potential seep sites and prioritize our survey areas effectively.

Remote Data Collection
Before deploying in situ chemical samplers, it is important to collect detailed images of the seafloor and water column if they are not already available. This data assists in planning operations, selecting appropriate sites, and conducting risk assessments. Water column sonar is used to detect bubbles, while bathymetry identifies geological anomalies, carbonate rock deposits, and seep-related communities. Hydrographic current data helps determine the best approach to seep sites, ensuring effective sampling.
In Situ Data Collection
Our expertise is demonstrated when we arrive at seep sites, typically facilitated by forward-facing sonar technology. Using advanced in situ dissolved gas analyzers, we can accurately identify seep-affected waters. Key analytes, including ethane and methane, enable us to generate C1/C2 ratios in real-time, delivering vital information on the thermogenic potential of the seep and informing sampling strategies in real-time. Potentially saving significant amounts of ship-time. Further, our sensor-triggered discrete, lossless sample collection ensures that hydrocarbons sourced from seeps are retrieved to the vessel for prompt isotopic and compositional analysis and/or sent to accredited onshore laboratories for detail isotopic analysis.
